It’s that day of the week again, and time for another of my Monday Musings. I honestly can’t believe how quick the weeks are flying in, where has the year gone?! I decided to start the post off with the incredible above picture from the Telegraph UK website, of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which was struck by lightning in a dramatic summer storm in the early hours of Saturday morning. Amazing or what?!

I’ve been working on quite a few posts lately, and simply haven’t had the time to do them all up! Working in the newspaper has kept me as busy as ever (I promise I will get around to updating the website with the masses of journalistic articles and content I have in the portfolio section, just bare with me!), and the next two weeks promises to be even busier as the other journalist who works in editorial with me is taking his holidays, so things will be flat out as I try to get everything done with the newspaper, website, driving and all the rest!

In an ideal world, this would be me (preferably driving around Paris), but I'm not there yet!

In an ideal world, this would be me (preferably driving around Paris), but I’m not there yet!

I’ve also started my driving* lessons, which are going very well, but it’s going to be a slow journey to get there! Driving is something that I really should have taken on ages ago, because for me, it’s essential that I learn to drive so that I can gain full independence. As I have mild Cerebral Palsy (CP), my little car is an adapted, automatic little Micra and learning how to use the hand controls (I use these so that I don’t have to use my feet), is definitely proving to be a greater challenge than I had originally anticipated. I’ve had about 8 lessons so far that haven’t been without their scary moments, but I’m happy that I have an extremely patient instructor, and that I’m making steady progress each week. I’m thinking of adding a Driving Diaries section to the website, so that I can document my progress, and so that anyone else that might have CP can see that they are not alone in dealing with the challenges that driving with having mild Cerebral Palsy brings. They’ll (hopefully!) be as light-hearted and funny as I can make them and if nothing else, an enjoyable read. Any thoughts on this? Do you think it’d be a good addition to the website? Do tell!

Hypnose2

I’ve been wanting to add some more cult beauty items to the beauty section on the site, and as I was in dire need of some new mascara, I thought that Hypnôse Mascara by Lancome would be ideal. I was delighted to finally get my hands on one of the limited edition versions by Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz. I bought the ‘Star’ edition (pictured above), and am in love with it already! How gorgeous is the packaging?! I’ll be reviewing it in detail this week, so keep an eye out for the post! Any other Hypnôse fans out there?

LGARTPOP

Next up, one of the most talked about people in the pop music industry, the amazing Lady Gaga, surprised the millions of Little Monsters eagerly waiting for new music by announcing details of her new single, titled Applause (to be released on August 19th) and highly anticipated new album ARTPOP (to be released on November 11th this year. She also plans to release a new app, and you can read the full details of that here. The singer had been keeping an extremely low profile since injuring her hip and subsequently having to cancel the remainder of her Born This Way tour, and she’s slowly but surely generating a mass of excitement in the build up to the release. It’s so exciting!!!!

We know the music video and album artwork have already been shot, and now it’s just a matter of playing the waiting game. I’ve been a Gaga fan ever since she came on the scene and I’m dying to hear the new music! Personally, I think she did the right thing in keeping the promotion for the new music fairly low key; she hyped it to no end when Born This Way was due to be released, and though I personally loved the entire album, I know quite a few were left quite disappointed, particularly as the hype was so intense. I much prefer the eras of The Fame and The Fame Monster, so I’m hoping to see some more of that this time around. Either way, I’m dying to see what she has come up with. The promo artwork so far (one of which is pictured above) is a tad laid back (for want of a better term!) so since Gaga herself promised a different, more Fame-esque sound this time around, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the finished product. Is anyone else as excited as I am for new music?!

Flywheel picture 1

Finally, not so long ago I was delighted to receive a very cute and thoughtful surprise package from my website hosting company Flywheel (check them out here), containing a t-shirt and lots of other cute bits and pieces (some of which are pictured above). Flywheel are a premium WordPress hosting company built specifically for web designers, freelancers and creative agencies, and my own amazing web designer Heather over at Viva La Violette recommended them to me because of their super easy migration system, lighting load speed and suburb customer service, and I have to say these talented guys and girls are the business. I had a lot of teething issues with my website when it was officially launched in April this year, and Flywheel couldn’t have been more supportive and helpful. Their whole interface and system is fantastic and they’ve really given me fantastic support and ensured that the site runs exactly as it should. They cater specifically for WordPress users, so if you’re looking for a superb hosting company, absolutely check these guys out.

That’s the Monday Musings for another week gang! Thoughts? Comments? Do post them in the comments section!
